Fjord Horse
These are scandanavian work horses, called fjord horses. They were raised by Kristi's cousin just outside of Stoughton, Wisconsin, one of the most Norwegian communities in the U.S. Their distinctive feature is this striking black strip down the center of the top of their head, neck, and shoulders. They are certainly smaller than a Belgium - more like a suffolk. Very beautiful creatures, and this photo shows the distinctive black stripe. This breed, like the suffolks, was almost lost. Fortunately, some people are dedicated to preserving this fine breed of horse.
