Sunday News Shows
By far the most cutting edge and poignant discussion was on McLaughlin, when he started out his show with a video clip of Sen. Lugar from Indiana in a hearing asking when and how are we going to end our engagement in Afghanistan. The rest of the discussion was about that issue, with McLaughlin himself culminating the discussion with the consummate question, which is, did Pres. Obama trap himself by his rhetoric about Afghanistan during the campaign into having to continue the war, regardless of the public support dropping , "victory" becoming more vague and obscure, and our casulties and costs going up substantially?
I actually think that Obama did do that to an extent. He has said enough about Afghanistan being the "good" war that he can't just turn 180 degrees and yank us out without becoming subject to at least somewhat legitimate criticism that he speaking out both sides of his mouth. Oh what a tangled web we weave.
There were also some good discussions about racism. Pat Buchanan and Monica Crowley are delusional if they are trying to say that there isn't any white racism and that black racism is equivalent to or worse than any white racism. But that's what it sounded to me like they were trying to say.
Maria Bartiromo had another super rich dude, this Zell guy, who again spouted off about Obama and the current administration being bad for business. These super rich dudes putting down Obama is getting old to me. They are just trying to protect their own money, which is fine, but they have so much, why can't they be a little willing to pitch in a little more for the public good? Maybe because they are selfish?
I was interested and glad to hear that Colby King shares my view that republican gains won't be as great as most of the pundits are trying to prognosticate. Many of the republican pundits are now acting confident that the republicans are going to win majorities in both chambers. If that happens, I'll be surprised, and worried. That means our country is in worse shape than I thought.
